Significance

(-)-Tetrodecamycin is a complex tetronic acid antimicrobial agent that displays activity against Pateurella piscicida, the bacteria responsible for pseudotuberculosis in fish. Noteworthy in this synthesis is the preparation of cis-diol D by a pinacol cyclization.
