Significance

Proline-derived polymer beads A were prepared from trans-4-hydroxy-l-proline via suspension copolymerization with styrene and divinylbenzene in polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) (eq. 1). The proline beads A catalyzed the aldol reaction of 4-nitrobenzaldehyde with cyclohexanone to give the corresponding aldol adduct in up to 91% yield with up to 97% anti selectivity and 98% ee (eq. 2).
