Significance

The authors have synthesized a ­series of chiral cobalt-salen complexes and used them as catalysts in the aminolytic kinetic resolution (AKR) of terminal epoxides with Boc-protected amine in the presence of an ionic liquid. Boc-protected 1,2-amino alcohols were obtained with excellent enantioselectivities. The catalyst is recyclable in this ionic liquid mediated process with no loss of its performance.
