Significance

Quinolines are an important class of biologically active compounds, both synthetic and occurring in nature, as well as they are perspective OLED materials. Herein, a novel mild protocol for the preparation of polysubstituted quinolines under mild conditions is reported. The method permits to prepare 2- and 4-alkyl and -arylsubstituted quinolines from readily available 2-iodoanilines and 1-acylalkynes. An interesting Ni-catalyzed addition of iodoarenes to ynones is proposed, which later may find various synthetic applications.
