Significance

A CuO nanospindle catalyzed the direct arylation of heterocycles 1 with aryl iodides 2 to give the corresponding arylated products 3 in up to 93% yield (21 examples). The catalyst was recovered and reused twice without significant loss of its catalytic activity in the formation of 3a (1st reuse: 91% yield, 2nd reuse: 88% yield).
