Übersicht:

Mit „Internet-Sexualität“ sind sämtliche sexualbezogenen Inhalte und Aktivitäten gemeint, die im Internet zu beobachten sind. Empirische Forschungsarbeiten zur Internet-Sexualität werden seit 1993 in stetig wachsender Zahl publiziert. Der vorliegende Beitrag fasst erstmals den aktuellen Forschungsstand in seiner thematischen Breite zusammen und behandelt sechs Bereiche der Online-Sexualität: Pornografie, Sexshops, Sexarbeit, Sexualaufklärung, Sexkontakte und sexuelle Subkulturen im Internet. Zentrale Forschungsergebnisse zu Erscheinungsformen, Nutzergruppen sowie Chancen und Risiken werden berichtet. In der Gesamtschau zeigt sich, dass sexuelle Online-Aktivitäten in der westlichen Welt mittlerweile in großen Bevölkerungsgruppen alltäglich sind. Je nach Alter, Geschlecht und sexueller Orientierung zeigen sich zum Teil unterschiedliche Formen der Internet-Sexualität. In der Forschung werden mögliche Negativ-Wirkungen sehr viel stärker untersucht als mögliche Positiv-Wirkungen. Zudem sind überraschend viele Forschungslücken zu beklagen.
