Synthesis of Propargylamines Catalyzed by Nanocrystalline Copper(II) Oxide

Significance

Three-component coupling of aldehydes 1, amines 2, and alkynes 3 took place in the presence of nanocrystalline copper oxide (nano CuO, 10 mol%; aldehyde:amine:alkyne = 1:1.3:1.5) to give the corresponding propargyl­amines 4 in up to 85% yield (15 examples). This catalyst was separated from the reaction mixture by centrifugation, and reused three times in the three-component coupling of benzaldehyde, piperidine, and phenylacetylene (76-82% yield).
