FeCl2-Catalyzed Amidation of C-H Bonds with N-Bromosuccinimide as Oxidizing Agent

Significance

A novel FeCl2-catalyzed C-N bond formation via benzylic C-H bond activation has been disclosed. The reaction was applied to diphenylmethane, substituted and non-substituted ethylbenzenes. A number of functional groups were tolerated. The reaction proceeds in air between 50-80 °C. The activity order of the benzylic reagents was found to be diphenylmethane > ethylbenzene > 4-bromoethylbenzene.
