Significance

Cyclopropanation of highly substituted and Z-conjugated alkenes remains a significant challenge. The authors report the expansion of their methodology to include the use of substituted carbenoid reagents (Org. Lett. 2007, 9, 2981; Synfacts 2007, 1070). The reaction seems stereospecific, as the dr in the products reflects the Z/E ratio of the starting alkene. The reaction is noteworthy for its practical simplicity.
