Simple Method for Hyperbranched Polymers

Significance

Structurally perfect polymer dendrimers have found varied application in medicine, catalysis, and nanofabrication. However, synthesis of such dendrimers is not efficient or economical. Hyperbranched polymers, while not monodisperse, often exhibit similar properties, but recent syntheses require harsh conditions and complex monomers. The authors report a simple preparation of hyperbranched polymers by the mild acyclic diene metathesis (ADMET) reaction using easily prepared monomers.
