With this issue of the journal, your associate editor is retiring. I have held this position since the founding of the journal almost 23 years ago by our editor-in-chief, Dr. Struach. The journal has had an astonishingly long and serious career for a small subspecialty publication that that is produced in-house in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, New York. My career has matched that of the journal in astonishment, excitement, and satisfaction. The hands-on attention that was possible under the unique conditions in which the journal was produced has been one of my deepest professional pleasures. I will always remember my dealings with all of you-readers, reviewers, editorial board, discussers, authors, and supporting societies. Knowing personally a large proportion of all those who made the journal possible, either through telephone, e-mail, snail mail, or personal contact, made my editorial experience a warm and rewarding one. I will never forget it.

I leave the journal in good hands-those of our editor-in-chief, our publishers, and all of you who remain interested in maintaining the excellence of this publication. Godspeed and a very happy 23rd birthday to all of us!
