Author summary
Nailing without reaming in this trial was not associated with a lower infection rate or a better rate of union. In fact, the results suggest a trend toward a higher rate of nonunion. There are no major advantages to nailing without reaming as compared with nailing with reaming for the treatment of closed fractures of the shaft of the tibia.
