ABSTRACT

Interventional Radiology or imaging guided minimally invasive therapy is practiced in Europe by radiologists and other medical specialists in their respective field. There is no uniform educational standard in Europe. Great variations exist in theoretical teaching and practical training between European countries and between universities within the same country. The European Association of Radiology (EAR), in collaboration with the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) has formulated a proposal for a European training program in interventional radiology, which represents a working document that needs further updating, and can be used by national and European political bodies. In this article, the content of the EAR working document is outlined and examples of the organization of education in interventional radiology in the United Kingdom, Germany, and France are given.
