Abstract

Polarisation of biological and psychological psychiatry has caused a form of Cartesian dualism restricting thinking and practising in this field for many years. Current growing knowledge in the field of neuroscience and psychotherapy of depression (and other illnesses) makes it possible for us to implement an integrative approach to treatment. We are beginning to understand the influence of psychotherapy on brain functioning and therefore understand mechanisms of curing. Maybe in future we will be able to define evidence based general psychotherapeutic procedures designed to target specific sites of brain functions.
