This Account describes the synthetic and spectroscopic work of the author and his collaborators in the chemistry of diporphyrins linked in the meso-positions by (i) conjugated alkyne-containing bridges, or (ii) ethane and ethene bridges, together with associated monoporphyrin transformations.
