A novel reaction starting from pyrano[3,2-c]azepines 1 and hydrazine hydrate was used for the preparation of the first derivatives of pyridazino[4,3-c]azepines 2. They were further oxidised by thallium(III) nitrate trihydrate (TTN) or copper(II) acetate hydrate (CuDA) to give aromatised fused pyridazine derivatives 5 also containing an ester function formed from the carbohydrazide moiety.
