Introduction of fluorine atoms into the macrocyclic acceptor unit leads to significant changes of the regio- and configurational selectivity in the self-assembly of TTF based [3]catenanes-(circum TTF), which are attributed to the donor-acceptor interaction between naphthalene and tetrafluorophenylene units.
