Asymmetric dihydroxylation of 2-aryl acrylate and 2-phenyl allyl alcohol derivatives was studied using the new ligand(DHQD)2-PHAL. Diols with good to excellent optical purity were obtained from 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b and 3e.
