Un Unexpected Tricarbonyl(fulvene)chromium Complex from a Pentacarbonyl[(Z) -2-dimethylaminoethenyl]carbenechromium Complex and 1-Pentyne

Michael addition of dimethylamine to pentacarbonyl[1-ethoxy-4-methyl-4 -trimethylsilyloxypentynylidene]chromium 1 gives pentacarbonyl[(2Z)-3-dimethylamino-1-ethoxy-4-methyl-4- trimethylsilyloxypentenylidene]chromium 2 in high yield. Complex 2 reacts with 1-pentyne to give tricarbonyl (6,6-dimethyl-1-dimethylamino-1-ethoxy-2-propylfulvene)chromium 6 as the main product. In the presence of base or fluoride, complex 2 cyclizes after desilylation to pentacarbonyl(4-dimethylamino-3,3-dimethyl-2-oxacyclopentenylidene)chromium complex 7 in excellent yield.
