Secondary benzylic and allylic trimethylsilyl ethers are oxidized at room temperature to the corresponding ketones in high yield using aqueous 70 % tert-butyl hydroperoxide and catalytic amounts of bis(triphenylsilyl) chromate [(Ph3SiO)2]. Under these conditions, the tert-butyldimethyl, thexyldimethyl and triphenylsilyl groups are much less reactive.
