We are pleased to serve as Guest Editors for this Facial Plastic Surgery edition on functional facial plastic surgery. We have gathered a group of experts who address many of the topics we all face as facial plastic surgeons. Of course, we dedicate a substantial portion of this volume to functional nasal surgery. This includes an overview of contemporary techniques in septal surgery and septal perforation repair. The surgical solutions, covering a wide range, to manage the internal and external nasal valve, as well as minimally invasive and even nonsurgical solutions for nasal obstruction, are discussed. We include a primer on blepharoptosis that will provide a surgeon, who does not routinely perform ptosis repair with the tools and vocabulary necessary, to communicate efficiently with their colleagues. We also dedicate space to the management of microtia and aural atresia. Facial paralysis and synkinesis are addressed with a focus on perioral treatment. Patients are increasingly sophisticated with a desire for more nuanced and finessed procedures. This issue provides a foundation for treating these patients and a jumping point for more in-depth study of the field.

We are greatly appreciative of the knowledge and commitment to the field of facial plastic surgery that these authors have and dedicate this issue to all the patients who simply wish to be whole.
