  • Intensivmediziner sind häufig mit der Versorgung kritisch kranker Krebspatienten konfrontiert. Die Kurz- und Langzeitprognose der Betroffenen hat sich innerhalb der vergangenen Jahrzehnte erheblich verbessert.

  • Die hämatologische und onkologische Prognose hat keinen wesentlichen Einfluss auf das Überleben des Intensivaufenthalts. Umgekehrt hat auch ein überlebter Aufenthalt auf der Intensivstation keinen Einfluss auf das Langzeitüberleben bzw. den hämatologischen oder onkologischen Verlauf.

  • Für eine sinnvolle Umsetzung der verfügbaren evidenzbasierten Kriterien für die Aufnahme auf die Intensivstation, eine angemessene Therapiezielfindung und die Bewältigung der häufigen, vielfältigen und spezifischen Problemstellungen bedarf es eines soliden hämatologischen und onkologischen Grundwissens der Intensivmediziner sowie einer engen Kooperation mit den behandelnden Hämatologen und Onkologen.
