Response to: Can Recurrence of Chronic Subdural Hematoma Be Predicted?

The authors criticized the demographics cited in the article. They supported their comments with some reports. Although they described these reports as recent, they are not up to date. They mentioned that the average age of patients with CSDH was > 75 years in recent reports. But many reports were available that show the average age as < 70 years. The average age of patients in this study was < 70 years because the study included children. Because of differences in etiological factors of subdural hematoma among different age groups, the study design might separate patients <16 years from others.

The number of bilateral subdural hematoma is the upper limit according to both recent and previous reports. Bilaterality of CSDH is not related to therapy or diagnostic tools. For this reason the number of bilateral hematomas should be compared with the entire body of the literature, not just recent reports. However, the high incidence of bilateral hematoma may be related to patient selection that includes children.
