Suzuki-Miyaura Coupling in Water Using Pd@PMO-IL

Significance

The palladium-containing periodic mesoporous organosilica (Pd@PMO-IL) was prepared and found to promote the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling in water. Thus, the periodic mesoporous organosilica comprising imidazolium ionic liquid (PMO-IL) was prepared from 1,3-bis(3-trimeth­oxysilylpropyl)imidazolium chloride with tetra­methoxysilane according to the reported procedures with a slight modification (C. Li et al. Microporous Mesoporous Mater. 2007, 98, 220). The reaction of PMO-IL with Pd(OAc)2 gave the supported catalyst Pd@PMO-IL (1). The Suzuki-Miyaura coupling was performed with 4-bromo­benzaldehyde (2a) and phenylboronic acid (3a) in the presence of 1 to give 4-phenylbenzaldehyde (4a) in 99% yield.
