Significance

Metal-catalyzed cycloadditions are powerful tools in organic synthesis (M. Lautens, W. Klute, W. Tam Chem. Rev. 1996, 96, 49). The authors report the intramolecular trapping of metal-benzopyrilium intermediates which result from platinum-catalyzed [4+2] cycloaddition of 2-alkynylbenzaldehydes with olefins.
