Abstract

A rapid, high increase in the serum insulin level was noted in diabetics after i.v. injection of 75 units of pure secretin (Jorpes). Repeated injection after 15 minutes provoked a smaller, but still significant, insulin release. The insulin concentration returned approximately to the fasting level 15 minutes after each injection. Doubling the secretin doses did not augment the responses.

The effect of the second dose of secretin constitutes a difference from the results of in vitro experiments.
