LDH-Isoenzymes in the Atrophic Uterus

Abstract

The isoenzymes of LDH in human myometrium of women under 45 years old and also of women over 56 years old were studied. In postmenopausal women an alteration of the LDH-activity favoring anodic migrating enzymes was found. In other words, the relative portion of the polypeptide H contained in LDH increased at the expense of polypeptide M. The total specific LDH-activity (mU/mg protein) was reduced. This process is assumed to be an example of the hormonal regulation of enzyme synthesis.
