Significance
The authors demonstrated a very interesting case of a heterogeneous catalysis by gold nanoparticles: a gold-catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling in water. This method is quite promising for practical use, as the required amount of the highly active gold catalyst is very small. The catalyst can also be easily recycled and reused several times, thus making this method a possible alternative to the conventional palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling.
