Significance

Thuggacins A, B and C isolated from the myxobacterium Sorangium cellulosum showed strong antibiotic activity against many ­microorganisms, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This bacterial species is the causative agent of tuberculosis, the disease with the second highest mortality rate after AIDS.
