Significance

A direct, highly atom-economical and selective synthesis of primary amines from ­alcohols and ammonia via catalysis by a novel Ru-pincer complex has been disclosed. It can be efficiently carried out ”on water". Water-soluble alcohols, however, are best converted using toluene as solvent.
