Polyisobutylene-Supported Pyridyl N-Oxide Catalyst for Allylation

Significance

Preparation of a polyisobutylene (PIB)-supported pyridyl N-oxide catalyst from ­vinyl-terminated PIB (5 steps) and its catalytic application to allylation of aromatic aldehydes are described. The allylation of 1a-d with allyltrichloro­silane in the presence of PIB-supported catalyst afforded the corresponding homoallylic alcohols 2a-d (67-89%, 4 examples). The polymeric catalyst was readily recovered and reused without loss of activity.
