Significance

The ability to stereospecifically and sequentially link multiple alkynes together into extended conjugated networks represents a versatile method for the synthesis of functional polyenes. The materials presented, although not intrinsically useful in their own right, serve as potential intermediates for the synthesis of chromophores and electroactive materials.
