Significance

A library of imidazolin-4-one has been synthesized using poly(ethylene glycol) as a soluble polymer support. The PEG-supported iminophosphorane 3 was prepared in three steps from PEG-4000. The PEG-supported carbodiimides 4 were obtained via the intermolecular aza-Wittig reaction of PEG-supported iminophosphorane 3 with aromatic isocyanates. The PEG-supported carbodiimides 4 reacted with primary amines in dichloromethane to give the desired imidazolin-4-ones 6 or 7.
