Dr. Judith L. Trudel is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Minnesota and a colon and rectal surgeon in St. Paul, Minnesota. Judith was born in Montréal, Canada and received her M.D. degree from Laval University, Québec City, Canada. She completed her internship and residency at McGill University, Montréal, Canada and received her colon and rectal training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. She then spent 1 year as an MRC Research Fellow at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas.

In 1988, Judith joined the faculty at the McGill University Department of Surgery, Montréal, Canada. Among several functions, she served as Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program. In 2004, she returned to the United States to join Colon and Rectal Surgery Associates, a large group practice in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. She is board certified in general surgery in the United States and Canada and in colon and rectal surgery. She also holds an M.Sc. degree in experimental surgery from McGill University, and a master's degree in health professions education (MHPE) from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Trudel maintains a busy clinical practice and is actively involved in the colon and rectal surgery residency program. In addition to her educational activities, she finds time to participate in research. She is the author or coauthor of 36 peer-reviewed papers and 5 book chapters. She has served as an associate editor for Diseases of the Colon and Rectum. She is an active member of several professional associations and has served on numerous committees for the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, most recently as a member at large of the Executive Council. She has been an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery.

Judith and her husband, François Bédard, Ph.D., live with their children, Vincent and Nicolas, in Woodbury, Minnesota. When not working, Judith enjoys reading, traveling, and cooking.
