Significance

To ensure defect-free dendronized polymers it is desirable to polymerize fully dendronized macromonomers as opposed to grafting dendritic components to the monomer units of a polymer. However, the macromonomer route provides formidable challenges in polymerization due to steric bulk of the monomer, especially with high-generation dendrimers. The authors report use of the fast-initiating Grubbs catalyst to synthesize dendrimer block copolymers with PDIs from 1.02-1.18 and Mn of 249-430 kDa. This platform provides the opportunity for the tuning of polymer nanostructure.
