Significance
This is the first example of diazo compounds being used as nucleophiles in Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. The authors have demonstrated that by choosing a suitable Pd catalyst the sensitive diazo function is left intact and that subsequent coupling with alkenyl and aryl iodides is possible under basic conditions. A protocol for carbonylation with CO is also presented.
