Significance

The Sonogashira coupling by using PdCl2(PPh3)2/silica-supported Cu complex 3 was developed. The linker (EtO)3Si(CH2)3N(CH2PPh2)2 (1) was attached to the silica support to give immobilized bisphosphine 2. The silica-supported Cu complex 3 was prepared from the resulting immobilized ligand 2, Cu(MeCN)4BF4, and PPh3. The Sonogashira coupling of iodobenzene with phenylacetylene by using PdCl2(PPh3)2 and the silica-supported Cu complex 3 gave tolane in quantitative yield. This supported Cu catalyst was reused several times without loss of activity (1st-11th: >90% conversion).
