Arzneipflanzen und Gesundheitsmarkt - Trends und Perspektiven

Zusammenfassung

Seit Jahrtausenden sind Pflanzen in verschiedenen Kulturkreisen als Heilmittel verwendet worden. Pflanzliche Produkte wurden dabei - als Bestandteile von Lebensmitteln oder direkt als Zubereitung in unterschiedlicher Applikationsform - für kurative und präventive Zwecke eingesetzt. Zahlreiche Gründe sind für den sich wandelnden Phytopharmaka-Markt zu benennen; durch die moderne Biotechnologie zeigen sich aber auch völlig neue Perspektiven für die Produktion von Pflanzen und deren Stellenwert im Gesundheitswesen.

Summary

For many centuries, plants have served as important sources of remedies in many cultures. The use of plant products ranges from important ingredients in foodstuffs to preparations in different application forms for curative as well as preventive purposes. Thus, several reasons have led to the changing nature of the pharmaceutical market. In particular, modern biotechnology has opened entirely new perspectives in plant production and the role plants play in health service.
