Significance

A series of polystyrene-supported phosphine catalysts bearing polar functional groups for the aza-Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction were developed. The supported phosphine catalysts were prepared by suspension-polymerization of polar group functionalized styrene, 4-(diphenylphosphino)styrene, and JandaJel® cross-linker. These polymer catalysts were applied to the aza-Morita-Baylis-Hillman reactions of N-tosyl arylimines and acrolein. JandaJel-PPh3 resin containing methoxy groups (JJ-OMe-PPh3) on the polystyrene backbone showed the highest catalytic activity.
