Significance
(+)-Allocyathin is isolated from the fruit bodies of Cyathus earlei. It has antibacterial and antifungal properties. The challenge in the synthesis of Allocyathin is the construction of the characteristic angularly fused 5-6-7 tricyclic skeleton, containing a conjugated trienal motif and 1,4-anti stereocenters at each ring junction.
