ZUSAMMENFASSUNG

Angst und Furcht sind notwendig für das Überleben des Individuums, ein Übermaß kann jedoch krankheitsrelevant sein. Angst, Panik und Phobien können schwere Auswirkungen auf psychische Gesundheit und auch soziale Folgen haben. Es gibt verschiedene Therapiemöglichkeiten, insbesondere verhaltenstherapeutische Maßnahmen sind erfolgreich. Flugangst ist eine spezifische Phobie, die das Fliegen zum Gegenstand hat. Sowohl Passagiere als auch Flugbesatzungen können betroffen sein, mit unterschiedlichen Folgen auf Wohlbefinden und berufliches Fortkommen. Circa 30 % der Bevölkerung sollen von Flugangst betroffen sein, die genaue Prävalenz bei fliegendem Personal ist nicht bekannt. Es gibt eine Reihe von standardisierten Behandlungsoptionen, in jüngster Zeit ergänzt durch Methoden der virtual reality oder via Internet.

ABSTRACT

Fear and anxiety are relevant for the survival of the individual. However, an excess of both may result in psychopathological disorders. Anxiety, panic, phobias may have severe impacts on psychological and social well-being. Several therapeutic options exist, especially methods of behavioral therapy have proven to be successful. Fear of flying or aviophobia is a particular kind of phobia related to exposure to flying. Both, passengers and air crew may be affected, with different impacts on well-being and professional career. Whereas about 30 % of the population may be affected the exact prevalence in flight crew is still unknown. Standardised treatment options exist, modern options include virtual reality and the use of on-line resources.
