Abstract

Musculoskeletal ultrasound of the peripheral joints and the periarticular structures is an important diagnostic tool in rheumatology today. This method exhibits high sensitivity for the detection of inflammatory changes of the bone and soft tissue. Therefore, it plays an important role in the diagnosis of early arthritis and in differential diagnosis in ambivalent clinical findings. Furthermore, it has significant value in therapy monitoring and estimation of prognosis.
