Summary

Using modern multi-detector CT scanners for imaging patients suffering from acute stroke not only allows for quantitative evaluation of diminished cerebral blood flow and blood volume in most parts of the supratentorial brain by CT perfusion imaging. It also offers valuable information on clot burden if simple thin-slice reconstructions are used to overcome the inherent low spatial resolution that is typical for standard non-enhanced cranial CT images.
