Die Grundlagenforschung zu Mechanismen und Regulation innerer Uhren sowie epidemiologischer und klinisch-chronopharmakologischer Studien zeigt, dass der Faktor „Tageszeit“ eine zunehmende Rolle in der Pharmakotherapie spielt. Die Arzneimittelkommission der deutschen Ärzteschaft hat dies in ihren Arzneiverordnungen berücksichtigt. Schon vor über 200 Jahren sagte Reil (35): „Wir würden unendlich mehr Gutes stiften, wenn wir mit diesen Veränderungen des Körpers die Zeit und die Dose der Medicamente in ein harmonisches Verhältnis bringen würden.”
