Summary

The high prevalence of childhood and adolescent obesity in industrialized countries demands a societal obesity prevention strategy. The present societal infrastructure within Germany and other industrialized countries has to be considered as apparently obesogenic, i.e. generating overweight and obesity-promoting behavior. Structural changes in the thinking of health promotion are necessary to achieve a reduction of barriers which currently hinder different groups to take action. This approach requires a public acceptance and will in order to convince the different stakeholders on all targeted societal levels.
