Dr. Segars is Director of the Howard and Georgeanna Seegar Jones Division of Reproductive Sciences and Women's Health Research in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Johns Hopkins. His primary clinical research interests are assisted reproduction and uterine fibroids. Dr. Segars completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at Vanderbilt University followed by a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in molecular biology at NIH as an RSDP scholar. Dr. Segars joined the intramural NICHD program where his laboratory pursued translational, clinical, and basic research relevant to reproduction. He served as head of Unit on Reproductive Endocrinology within the Program of Reproductive and Adult Endocrinology of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development at NIH, and Program Director for the NICHD-sponsored Clinical Reproductive Endocrinology Training Program and Medical Director for the Walter Reed ART Program for 18 years before being recruited to Johns Hopkins to head the Howard and Georgeanna Seegar Jones Laboratory. This new laboratory is actively pursuing basic, translation, and clinical investigation of ovarian and oocyte function and studies of uterine fibroids.
