Significance

TiO2-supported copper nanoparticles (CuNPs/TiO2) catalyzed the oxidative homocoupling of terminal alkynes 1. Thus, the homocoupling of phenylacetylene (1a) proceeded smoothly in the presence of CuNPs/TiO2 and piperidine to give 1,4-diphenyl-1,3-butadiyne (2a) in 97% yield. The catalyst was recovered by filtration and reused without any reactivating treatment.
