Significance

EBC-23 was isolated in 2007 from the fruit of Cinnamomum laubatii. It exhibits activity against the cell lines of several human cancers and inhibits the growth of a prostate cancer xeno­graft in mice. The structure and absolute stereo­chemistry were confirmed from the total synthesis by C. M. Williams and co-workers (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2008, 130, 15262).
