Significance

Reported is the synthesis of 2,3-substituted indoles by silver-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization of N-arylformimidates to ortho-acetylenic moieties. Interestingly, the expected 1,2-substituted indole A is not produced in this ­reaction and the formation of the product is rationalized by a 1,3-alkenyl shift process for which ­direct evidence was not provided.
