Significance

Building up previous work in the area of metal-catalyzed cycloadditions of vinyl cyclopropanes (P. A. Wender et al. Org. Lett. 2000, 2, 1609), the authors report a rhodium-catalyzed [5+2] cycloaddition-Nazarov cyclization strategy for the formation of bicyclo[5.3.0]decane cores. The bicyclic structure is prominent in many natural products with interesting biological activities.
